There is something about running in the rain.....

I went on a 4 mile run this morning and it rained almost the entire time. I loved every second of it! Though my legs felt like lead and the jacket I was wearing soaked the rain up like it was a sponge. I was exhausted by the time we got back to my house. But it was exilerating and oh so much fun!

Could it be because playing in the rain when we were kids was a special treat? Maybe I want to be young again? Nah....its just refreshing and something different.

I think next time I better have a different jacket though, hehe.

When I got home from the run, I took off my soaked shirt and showed my abs to my hunny. I said "look, I'm getting some muscle finally" he said "you could be in a bowflex commercial" ahh....sweet music to my ears! Me, a mom of three with stretch marks and flab, can maybe someday look like those girls in the commercials.

I don't think I'll be able to wipe the smile off my face for quite some time!

Redemption!

Yes!!! I planned on running on the treadmill this morning, no set mileage in mind. I got to mile 3 and decided to go for 8 total. I had been slowing down every two miles to drink a little water and then picking it back up to 10:30 minute miles. After an hour the treadmill automatically slowed down to cool down mode. Nothing I could do to speed it back up again. So I stopped and took a potty break then got on a different treadmill to finish off my run.

8.2 miles in 1 hr 28 minutes, not too shabby. So I reached my minimum goal for the week (12-15 miles) and broke my "never been over 4 miles on a treadmill in one time" record. I'm proud of myself and am pretty stinky.

Off to the showers!

Why do I set goals?

Is it just to torture myself when I fail? I set a goal to run a marathon this year. I ended up pushing it back to next year so I could get more training in. I had planned on starting my official marathon training in January, but the big wigs of the Salt Lake marathon decided that June 3rd would be a better date for the marathon rather than April. So I don't start my official training until mid February or so.

So, I decided to set a goal this month to get myself back up to marathon shape. I wanted to be up to 23-25 miles per week by the end of the month. Which meant that this week I was going to run 12-15 miles, well so far I have a grand total of 4.2 miles, whoop de doo! I suppose I can run 4 tonight and then 4-6 or so tomorrow morning. But I always fizzle out in the evenings after a long day of kids and driving, not to mention cooking and cleaning.

I guess I'm feeling a bit down since its the first week of the month and I am already sucking.

blah!

A little about me

I started running in February of 2005. I hadn't planned on becoming a runner, I just wanted to get in shape, lose a bit of flab. Little did I know about the addiction that would take over my life soon after.

In April I logged in 37 miles for the whole month, that was such a huge accomplishment for me. I hadn't run since high school when I was forced to run the mile, I hated running! I thought runners were a bunch of crazies, especially those that went out in the cold, dark days of winter.

In May I decided that I wanted to run the 10k freedom run in Provo. My husband ran it 12 years earlier before we were married and I wanted to beat his time :) That is one thing that I should mention, I am very competetive in some things and apparently running is one of those things, hehe. Anyway, I started training for the 10k and realized that running was tons of fun, hey why not do a marathon? Hmm....I could do a marathon, yeah that would be cool to do since I was turning 30 this year.

So I stupidly ran 13 miles on saturday as part of my marathon training and the 10k was on Monday. My legs were so tired, no way could I beat Stu's speedy time. So I trudged along and just had a blast! It took 1hr and 4 minutes to complete the 10k, ahh....so hard but awesome!

Life got in the way and my training really suffered over the summer, so I decided to push my marathon goal back a few months and run the salt lake marathon instead. I needed a bit more time to get myself into shape. I chose the Salt Lake marathon because its fairly close to my home and it was in April, I would have a couple of months to play around with my exercise routine before I was sucked into running, running and more running.

Today I found out they moved the marathon date back to June 3rd, I'm a bit disappointed, but it does give me a bit more time to get faster. Maybe I can beat my time goal that I set after my 10k, yeah that sounds good!

Well, I guess thats enough rambling to put you all to sleep, so I'll stop for now.
